New financing from the Catalan NF2 Patients Association for Research into personalized medicine for Neurofibromatosis Type 2

Can Ruti has been awarded a research project by the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases (FEDER) Foundation in their fourth call for research projects.  The winning project, led by Dr Ignacio Blanco and Dr Elisabeth Castellanos, from the Germans Trias I Pujol Hospital and Institute respectively, is one of five financed by the foundation this year. The research will focus personalized attention for Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) patients to optimize evaluation of their quality of life and refine their classification during diagnosis.

The first half of the Can Ruti Biomedical Research Seminar Series completed in style

This year the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP), the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute and the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) have got together to organize the first Can Ruti Research Seminar Series.  The scientific committee invited eleven speakers and arranged sponsorship from AstraZeneca and Celgene.  After completion of the first half of the series the organizers are very pleased with the results.

Phakomatosis experts get together at the IGTP

The professionals that make up the Reference Centre (CSUR) on Neurocutaneous Syndromes- Phakomatoses, have met up together at the IGTP. The aim of these regular meetings and mini-symposiums is to revise the work done in healthcare and research, including innovations, new approaches and the lines of research underway. The prescence of different professionals in the meeting provides a more global view of the work carried out by the whole group and a better reciprocal understanding of the healthcare and research aspects.

VII Edition of the Talents Grants promotes research and the recognition of young medics

Tuesday 11 December saw the celebration of the 7th edition of the Pedrera Talents at the Casa Milà.   The awards, sponsored by the Catalonia La Pedrera Foundation, in which the Germans Trias Hospital and the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona both participate, consist of public recognition and a grant after their medical residency for young specialist physicians and other health professionals so that they can dedicate themselves to research.

The IGTP and the ICO join forces with the IRONMAN Project, the largest international registry for research into metastatic prostate cancer

The Urological Tumour Group of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO-B·ARGO) at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) led by Dr Albert Font Pous in collaboration with the Urology and Radiology Service at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital have joined the IRONMAN Project this November.   The project was created and is being mainly financed by the Movember Foundation.

The "la Marató de TV3" funds 36 biomedical projects for research into infectious diseases

The funds collected in the 2017 edition of "La Marathon de TV3" and "Catalunya Ràdio" fundraiser will pay for 36 top-ranked biomedical research projects on infectious diseases with the aim of creating new tools for diagnostics and prevention and more efficient treatments to provide more years of quality life for patients.  The 55 researchers who will carry out the research received their certificates today in an event that took place on Tuesday in the Catalan and Balearic Island Academy of Medical Sciences and Health.  Two of these projects will be carried out at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) on the Can Ruti Campus.

Professionals from the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital and Research Institute take part in HEALTHIO

The second edition of HEALTHIO, a trade fair for health and innovation at the Fira de Barcelona, was held on 16-18 October.  It brought together members of the public, health professionals and innovative small companies in an open space designed to promote dialogue between all the players in the healthcare ecosystem and promote evolution of the sector.
