The IGTP and the ICO join forces with the IRONMAN Project, the largest international registry for research into metastatic prostate cancer

The Urological Tumour Group of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO-B·ARGO) at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) led by Dr Albert Font Pous in collaboration with the Urology and Radiology Service at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital have joined the IRONMAN Project this November.   The project was created and is being mainly financed by the Movember Foundation.

The "la Marató de TV3" funds 36 biomedical projects for research into infectious diseases

The funds collected in the 2017 edition of "La Marathon de TV3" and "Catalunya Ràdio" fundraiser will pay for 36 top-ranked biomedical research projects on infectious diseases with the aim of creating new tools for diagnostics and prevention and more efficient treatments to provide more years of quality life for patients.  The 55 researchers who will carry out the research received their certificates today in an event that took place on Tuesday in the Catalan and Balearic Island Academy of Medical Sciences and Health.  Two of these projects will be carried out at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) on the Can Ruti Campus.

Professionals from the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital and Research Institute take part in HEALTHIO

The second edition of HEALTHIO, a trade fair for health and innovation at the Fira de Barcelona, was held on 16-18 October.  It brought together members of the public, health professionals and innovative small companies in an open space designed to promote dialogue between all the players in the healthcare ecosystem and promote evolution of the sector.

Rice against HIV: a three-protein cocktail produced in seeds shows potent HIV neutralization in vitro

Researchers from University of Lleida-Agrotecnio, IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute and ICREA obtained for the first time three different anti-HIV proteins from a single transgenic rice plant and crude extracts from it averted HIV from entering in human cells in vitro. Rice components showed an enhancing effect, further helping to block HIV infectivity. Dr Julià Blanco, researcher from the Institut Germans Trias i Pujol at IrsiCaixa, where he leads the Cell Virology and Immunology group, participated in the study.

The Comparative Medicine and Bioimage Centre of Catalonia (CMCiB) opens for business

In June this year the new Comparative Medicine and Bioimage Centre of Catalonia (CMCiB) started its normal working activities.  Located at the highest point of the campus, the CMCiB is a centre promoted by the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) and dedicated to biomedical research and training.  The centre is an important addition to scientific infrastructures in southern Europe and is the only one in Spain, it has been set up to become a reference in comparative medicine, bioimaging and computational models with a clear remit to promote alternative research models and methods

Huge turnout for the first Can Ruti PhD Day

"Organized by us, for us," has been the catchphrase for the first Campus Can Ruti PhD Day.   The event took place on Friday 29 June with a traditional scientific conference format and it provided a meeting point for all the PhD students on Campus Can Ruti.   The idea came from five pre-doctoral researchers, carrying out their respective theses in different institutions on the campus, who made up the first Campus Can Ruti doctoral students' committee.
