This March, the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) once again opened its doors to donors of La Marató as part of the Visita la recerca program - an initiative by the Fundació La Marató de TV3 that connects the public with the scientific projects they help to fund.

4 March - IGTP's Clinical Genomics Unit

Dr Elisabeth Castellanos led the first visit of the round, presenting the research carried out by the Clinical Genomics Unit, which is linked to the Genetic Diagnostics Centre at Germans Trias Hospital. The visit highlighted advances in genomic analysis applied to rare diseases, and acknowledged the work of the CSUR Reference Centre and the collaboration with professionals such as Dr Ignacio Blanco in addressing complex genetic conditions.

20 March - Research into paediatric COVID-19 at Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital

The second visit took place at the hospital facilities, where Dr Carlos Rodrigo, Clinical Director of Paediatrics at Germans Trias Hospital, and his team shared with donors the objectives and preliminary findings of their project focused on identifying the triggers of COVID-19 in children. This line of work focuses on the study of immune and susceptibility markers, aiming to improve the diagnosis and treatment of severe cases in the paediatric population. The visit also included a tour of IGTP facilities, with stops at the Translational Genomics Unit, led by Dr Maria del Pilar Armengol, and the Cryobiology Platform, where Eugeni Aragall explained the sample storage process.

These encounters once again highlight IGTP's commitment to transparency and scientific outreach, while fostering a direct and enriching dialogue between research and society.
