Two IGTP groups lead a European analysis to understand key factors for digitalisation in practice environments

The research groups in Nursing Care (NURECARE) and Innovation, Health Economics and Digital Transformation (INEDIT) from the IGTP are leading the publication of the first report on the key factors for introducing digital technologies in professional nursing practice environments. Through this effort, professionals from the Germans Trias Hospital are participating for the first time in the design of a comprehensive analysis of the required changes, while also offering recommendations to ensure the success of any initiative aimed at incorporating these technologies into hospitals.

IGTP introduces super-resolution microscope at CMCiB

A state-of-the-art super-resolution fluorescence confocal microscope, called Abberior Infinity, was installed in the high-level biosafety (NCB3) facility of the Centre for Comparative Medicine and Bioimage (CMCiB). The equipment of this class, unique in the region, is a powerful tool for anyone aiming to perform advanced microscopy studies on fully infectious Level 3 pathogens (HIV, SARS-CoV-2, Monkey Pox, TB etc.) The microscope is available for use by all internal and external users via IGTP Microscopy Platform.

Hyposfix, a new medical device to improve paediatric urological surgeries, has been developed by researchers at Germans Trias Hospital, with support from IGTP

The expertise and innovation spirit of researchers at Germans Trias Hospital's Paediatric Surgery Service has resulted in a new medical device for the treatment of hypospadias: Hyposfix, a urological separator-fixator. This device, which will be launched to market soon, is the result of an idea and a project led at Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP).

The Clinical and Environmental Infectious Diseases Research Group signs a collaboration for the development of a new biocide for the treatment of drinking water

The Clinical and Environmental Infectious Diseases Research Group (CEID) has discovered a molecule of natural origin with a high bactericidal, amoebicidal and biofilm reduction capacity. The collaboration signed by the group's researchers with a private company will finance the improvement of the molecule's characteristics to be applied in large water installations, preventing water for human consumption from acting as a vehicle for the transmission of bacterial diseases.

Time is Brain, Spin-off company from the IGTP, closes its financing round in little more than an hour

The seed-funding round for the IGTP Spin-off Time is Brain has reached its financing objective in record time almost as soon as it opened. The company opened the round on the platform Capital Cell and has not only reached the goal of 640,000, but has passed it and received 800,000, the figure the spin-off had set as a maximum.

Mireia Ramos Rodríguez is awarded the prize for the Best Research Paper by a Predoctoral Student by the Catalan Institute of Health

Mireia Ramos Rodríguez is a bioinformatics post-doctoral researcher; she focusses on defining the changes in cis-regulatory elements that can lead to the development of disease and programming to provide tools for other researchers to carry out their analyses. She has been awarded the Prize for Best Research Paper in Health by a Predoctoral Researcher for her article published in Nature Genetics.

Virtual lungs to understand the dynamics of tuberculosis lesions within the lungs

The study focusses on understanding the mechanisms that keep the infection latent without the infected person developing the disease. 90% of people infected never develop the active disease, understanding this mechanism so that we can identify them is key to eradicating tuberculosis. The research has been carried out in virtual lungs, developed by computational modelling techniques. These are the first results to be published by the 3Rs Programme at the Centre for Comparative Medicine and Bioimage (CMCiB) which aims to minimize the use of animals in pre-clinical research.
