IGTP secures over €13 million to support the development of research projects and strengthen research talent

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) has secured €13,208,000 through several funding calls supporting research projects and research activity, the results of which were announced this December. These include both Spanish and Catalan-level calls promoted by Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) and the Department of Health of the Government of Catalonia.

The award of these grants highlights the robustness and competitive capacity of the research conducted at the Can Ruti Campus, with a clear focus on translational research and innovation aimed at addressing health challenges and improving people's quality of life.

IGTP currently manages more than 350 active projects, both national and international, and, as an Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria (IIS) accredited by ISCIII, coordinates research management and the scientific strategy of the Campus in close collaboration with its member institutions.

Proyectos en colaboración público-privada 2024

In collaboration with various institutions and companies, IGTP has secured funding for the development of eight research projects under the CPP2024 call of AEI. The total funding awarded to the different consortia exceeds €9 million, of which €2,578,000 will be allocated to the Institute.

The call forms part of the State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation 2024-2027 of the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU) and is co-funded by the European Union. Its aim is to foster knowledge transfer between the public and private sectors, supporting the advancement of scientific results towards higher levels of technological maturity and their translation into societal impact.

Acción Estratégica en Salud 2025

IGTP and the institutions affiliated within the framework of its accreditation as an IIS have received nearly €4 million for research projects and researcher contracts through the Acción Estratégica en Salud (AES) 2025 calls.

The AES is an initiative of the MICIU that comprises a set of funding calls aimed at addressing citizens' health priorities and strengthening the public research system in biomedicine and health sciences. In 2025, the calls initially had an overall budget of €160 million, representing a 15% increase compared with the previous year.

Pla estratègic de recerca i innovació en salut 2022-2027

Within the framework of the Pla estratègic de recerca i innovació en salut (PERIS) 2022-2027, IGTP has secured funding for a validation project, "Test for the diagnosis of ischaemic stroke in pre-hospital settings (RUSH-PoC)", with a total award of €64,614, as well as a contract to support the intensification of research activity by health sciences professionals, amounting to €149,760.

The PERIS is the planning and coordination instrument that defines the overall lines of research and innovation in health of the Department of Health, in line with the priorities of the Catalonia Health Plan, and in collaboration with the Department of Business and Knowledge.
