JOB DESCRIPTION:

IGTP requires to incorporate to the GCAT - Genomes for the Life a Post-doctoral fellow for the Horizon Europe Project: END-VOC "ENDing COVID-19 Variants Of concern through Cohort studies (END-VOC)".

  • The END-VOC consortium will support the European and global response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Variants of Concern (VOC) through well-characterised cohorts and linked with existing European and international initiatives.

  • The Project END-VOC consists of 19 partners in Europe (UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Italy), South America (Brazil and Peru), Africa (Mozambique, South Africa, Nigeria and 13 ANTICOV African countries), Middle East (Palestine) and Asia (India, Pakistan, Philippines) with a focus on countries affected by VOCs and VOIs.

  • It aims to elucidate the global circulation of the current and emerging SARS-CoV-2 VOCs and their characteristics, including transmissibility, pathogenicity and propensity to cause reinfection, to support best control strategies and the development of diagnostics; evaluate the impact of VOCs on the effectiveness of different vaccines and vaccination strategies, and assess the implications of VOCs on the choice of optimal treatment options.

  • Our role in the consortium will imply, the identification of cases, sample collection, processing and analysis of Omics Data in the context of the GCAT'Genomes for life Cohort and Catalan population.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE:

The applicant must have the following qualifications:

  • PhD  in Bioinformatics, computer science, Omics analysis or related areas. Molecular biology background is a plus.

  • 3-5 years of experience in bioinformatics software use and/or development (Python, R, and other relevant programming languages).

  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in management and analysis of genomic data.

  • Experience working in the field of human genomics, proteomics, and epidemiology.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical principles, including experimental design and machine learning.

  • Ability to collaborate with the team and translate existing research into practical solutions and products.

  • Drive project execution and implement a robust plan for measuring success.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific tasks will be:

  • Develop and use bioinformatics approaches to integrate epidemiological and multi-omics data of SARS-COV2 (including genotypes, WES, WGS, proteome, exposome and environmental data)

  • Development of statistical analysis using a variety of software and complementary innovative approaches.

  • Discussion of results, and elaboration of reports, oral presentations, and scientific reports.

  • Provide bioinformatics support to the team in other research projects.

  • Full-time contract.

  • Starting date: January 2023.

  • Gross annual remuneration inherent to the square objected to this call, will be fixed based on the experience provided and the skills of the candidate, distributed in 12 payments.
